Set up a member area

Let visitors register and log in, show pages to logged-in members only, and manage, activate or block members (Premium).

With the Member Area addon you create a protected part of your website that only registered and logged-in members can see. Visitors register themselves, you decide how they are activated, and every member gets a small profile to manage their own data. The member area is included in Premium; with a Free website you can upgrade to Premium to use it.

1. Create the pages with the member area forms

The member area consists of several forms that you place on pages as elements: Registration, Login, Logout, Password forgotten, Change Details, Change E-Mail, Change Password and Delete Account. At least a login page and a registration page are needed.

  1. Add a page, for example "Login", and open it with Edit Page Content.
  2. Click Add Element (Addon), open the group Addons and click Member Area.
  3. Under Select Member Area Feature choose the form for this page, for example Login.
  4. Click Save & Finish and repeat this for the other forms, each on a page of its own.

Put at least the login and the registration page into the menu so that visitors can find them.

2. Member area settings

Open Addons → Member Area → Settings:

  • Login Form: select the page on which you placed the login form. This setting is required; members are sent to this page when they have to log in.
  • Member Activation: decide how new members are activated. No activation required lets members log in right away; E-Mail activation required sends them a confirmation link; Admin activation required means you approve every member by hand; E-Mail and Admin activation required combines both.
  • Block multiple registrations prevents several registrations from the same visitor.
  • Own Terms of Service: a text that new members have to accept when registering.
  • Fields: choose which details the registration asks for. Username, Password and E-Mail are always required; name, address, date of birth and other fields are optional, and you can add up to five fields with your own labels.

3. Make pages visible to members only

Which pages belong to the member area is decided in the page settings: open Pages → Manage Pages, click Page Settings at the page and set Visibility to For registered, logged-in visitors. The other options are For everyone, For visitors that have not logged in (useful for the login and registration page) and Only visible for you.

4. Manage members

Under Addons → Member Area (Manage Members) you see all members with their status: e-mail activation or admin activation still required, blocked, or activated. The dashboard tells you when new members wait for your activation.

  • Open a member to see the details and click Activate Member, Block Member / Unblock Member or Delete Member.
  • Send activation e-mail again resends the confirmation link; Send password e-mail sends the member a link to choose a new password.
  • With Add Member you create a member yourself, for example for a club member without e-mail registration.

Members can change their details and e-mail address, request a new password and delete their account on the pages with the corresponding forms.
