With the Guestbook addon your visitors leave greetings and comments on your website. New entries are shown only after you have approved them, so you keep full control over what appears. The guestbook is available in every package.
Place the guestbook on a page
- Add a page called "Guestbook", for example, or open an existing page with Pages → Manage Pages → Edit Page Content.
- Click Add Element (Addon), open the group Addons and click Guestbook.
- Click Save & Finish. Visitors now see the entry form and the published entries on that page.
Settings
Open Addons → Guestbook → Settings:
- Entries per Page: how many entries are shown on one page before visitors have to turn the page.
- Allow Entries: untick Allow writing new entries. if the guestbook should only serve as an archive and nobody should write new entries.
- Security: the entry form is always protected against spam with Google reCAPTCHA. Please mention this in your privacy policy, as data of your visitors is transmitted to Google.
Approve new entries (moderation)
Every new entry waits for your approval. The visitor sees the message that the entry will be published as soon as it has been approved. Entries that were recognised as spam (automated senders, several links) are discarded silently.
- Open Addons → Guestbook (Manage Entries). The dashboard and the Addons overview also tell you how many new entries are waiting.
- The column Published? shows which entries are not public yet. Click an entry to open it.
- Check name, subject and message. You can shorten or correct the text and add a Comment of your own that is shown next to the entry.
- Click Publish Entry. For entries that are already public, the button is Save Changes.
An entry you do not want to publish is simply deleted.
Delete entries
- One entry: click the delete button at the entry (Delete Guestbook Entry) and confirm.
- Several entries: tick the entries in the first column, or Select all on this page, then click Delete selected.
- The whole guestbook: click Delete all entries and confirm. This removes every entry, including the ones that are not published yet.
