The DNS records of a domain decide where your website and your e-mails are delivered. For domains registered through hPage you can view and change these records yourself, for example to receive the e-mails of your domain with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace instead of hPage.
Open the DNS settings
- Open My Package → Domains (admin.hpage.com/app/booking/domains).
- In the row of the domain, click DNS settings (the network icon).
The button is only there for domains registered through hPage, and not while a domain is still being registered or is locked. Only the owner of the website can change the DNS settings; co-admins cannot.
What the page shows
The page DNS settings of yourname.com lists all DNS records with their Name, Type, Value and, for MX records, Priority. Names are relative to your domain: @ stands for the domain itself, autodiscover for autodiscover.yourname.com.
At the top a red warning reminds you that changes to the DNS records can make your website or your e-mails unreachable. Only change records when you know what they do, for example following the instructions of your e-mail provider.
Some records are marked with a lock (Protected) and cannot be changed: the address of your website (the domain itself, www and the wildcard *), the host mail and the name servers. This way your website always stays reachable.
Add and remove records
You can add and remove records of the types A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT.
- In the last row of the table, enter the name, choose the type and enter the value (and the priority for MX), then click Add record.
- To remove a record, click the trash button (Remove record) in its row.
- Your changes are collected first. A bar shows You have unsaved changes.: click Save Changes and confirm, or Discard changes to undo them.
Saved changes are visible within a few minutes, everywhere within 24 hours.
These limits apply:
- A domain can have at most 50 DNS records.
- A TXT value can have at most 253 characters and no double quotes. A 2048-bit DKIM key therefore does not fit; with Google Workspace, choose a 1024-bit DKIM key.
- A CNAME record cannot have the same name as another record.
- Only one SPF record (
v=spf1) is allowed per name.
Set up Microsoft 365
- Add your domain in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Microsoft then shows the records it needs, including a verification code that starts with
MS=ms. - On the DNS settings page, click Set up Microsoft 365.
- Enter the code under Verification code (TXT record). Under Mail server (MX record) hPage suggests
yourname-com.mail.protection.outlook.com(your domain with hyphens instead of dots); compare it with the value Microsoft shows. - Click Apply. The mail server and the SPF record of hPage are replaced by: MX
yourname-com.mail.protection.outlook.comwith priority 0, CNAMEautodiscover→autodiscover.outlook.com, TXTv=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -alland TXT with your verification code. - If Microsoft shows DKIM records (CNAME
selector1._domainkeyandselector2._domainkey), add them by hand with Add record. - Click Save Changes and confirm (see the next sections).
Set up Google Workspace
- Add your domain in the Google Admin console. Google then shows a verification code (
google-site-verification=…). - On the DNS settings page, click Set up Google Workspace.
- Enter the code under Verification code (TXT record) and check the mail server.
- Click Apply. The mail server and the SPF record of hPage are replaced by: MX
smtp.google.comwith priority 1, TXTv=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~alland TXT with your verification code. - Click Save Changes and confirm.
Change the mail server (MX)
When you save a change to the mail server (MX), the confirmation shows a warning that you have to accept with the checkbox I understand that my e-mails will no longer go through the hPage mail server. From then on:
- New e-mails to addresses @yourdomain go to the new provider and no longer to hPage.
- Your hPage mailboxes keep their e-mails, which you can still read in the webmailer, but receive no new e-mails from outside.
- E-mails that hPage itself sends to these addresses, for example from the contact form of your website, still arrive in your hPage mailbox. If necessary, set the recipient of the contact form to another address (see Add a contact form).
Reset to default
Reset to default (with confirmation) restores the records of a new registration: the address of your website, the host mail and the mail server and SPF record of hPage. All records you added are removed, and e-mails to your domain are delivered via hPage again.
If you are not sure which records your provider needs, contact our support with the name of your domain and the instructions of your provider; we are happy to help.
