Manage files

Organise your uploaded files in folders, rename, move or delete them and find the URL of a file in the file manager.

All files you have uploaded are kept in the file manager under Files → File Manager. There you create folders, rename and move files, delete what you no longer need and copy the address of a file.

The main folders

Your files are sorted into five main folders by type: Images, Music and Videos, Flash Files, Web Files (CSS, JavaScript, fonts and, with Premium, HTML files) and Downloads (documents, archives and other files). A file always belongs to the main folder of its type; you cannot store a PDF in Images, for example.

Click the folder button at the top of the file manager to open the folder list and switch between main folders and their subfolders. Above the files you see the Name, Folder Size and number of Files of the open folder, and the folder list shows the Space used of your whole website.

Create, rename and delete folders

  1. Open the folder list and click Add Folder next to a main folder to create a subfolder in it.
  2. Enter the Folder name and confirm.
  3. Each subfolder has a pen icon (Rename folder) and a trash icon (Delete folder).

Subfolders are handy for galleries: a gallery shows the images of one folder.

View and sort files

The Settings button switches the Display between Thumbnail and Listing and sets the thumbnail Size (Small, Medium, Large). You can sort by Name, Creation Date or Size. To find a file in any folder, type at least three characters of its name into Search for Filename.

Work with a file

Click a file to select it; hold the Shift key to select several files. A bar with the available actions appears:

  • View / Edit opens the details of the file (see below). Double-clicking a file does the same.
  • Download saves the file to your computer.
  • Move puts the selected files into another folder of the same main folder (Move file to folder).
  • Delete removes the selected files after a confirmation. This cannot be undone, and links to the file on your pages stop working.

The file details

The details page shows the file name with a pen icon (Change file name). In the dialog Rename File you type the new name; the extension stays as it is. Tick Rename filename also physically in the server URL. if the address of the file should change too; otherwise the file keeps its old URL and links on your pages keep working.

Below the name you can add a comment (Change comment); comments are shown as captions in galleries. The details also list the Size, Upload Date and, for images, Width and Height.

  • URL to this file is the address of the file. Copy it to link the file from a text or to offer it for download.
  • HTML Code to embed gives you a ready-made snippet for images and, with a paid package, for music and video files.
  • Downloads counts how often the file has been downloaded; Reset download counter sets it back to zero.
  • Compressed tells you whether an image has been compressed. Compress Image now (Recommended) shrinks it afterwards. Keep the original on your computer: compression cannot be reverted.
  • Under Image controls you rotate an image by 90 or 180 degrees. Clicking the preview opens the image in full size.

To add more files, use the Upload button at the top of the file manager, see upload files.
