You do not need to know HTML to build a website with hPage; the content editor writes it for you. This article explains the term and shows where your own code can go if you want to use some.
HTML in one minute
HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is plain text with "tags" that tell the browser how to display the content. Two examples:
<b>Bold text</b>is displayed as Bold text (thebstands for bold).<a href="https://www.hpage.com/">hPage</a>becomes a link with the text hPage.
CSS adds the design (colours, fonts, spacing), JavaScript the behaviour. Code snippets from other providers, for example a map, a booking widget or a video player, are usually HTML combined with JavaScript.
Where your own HTML can go in hPage
- Embedded HTML element: in the content editor choose Add Element (Addon) → Special → Embedded HTML and paste the code. This is the recommended place for third-party code, because it does not interfere with the text editor.
- Insert HTML in the text toolbar: inserts a snippet at the cursor position inside a text element.
- HTML Editor in the content editor toolbar: shows and edits the complete HTML of the page. For advanced users only; a mistake can break the layout, and Try to repair helps if the code cannot be read back.
- Head HTML of a single page (Premium): Page Settings → Show Advanced Settings → Head HTML, for scripts or stylesheets that only this page needs.
- Settings → Header Area: Own, additional HTML code (between
<head>and</head>) for the whole website, for example verification tags, and Own, additional CSS stylesheet (the URL of a .css file). - Settings → General → Sitewide: HTML at the Beginning of each page and at the End of each page, for example for counters. A single page can opt out with Do NOT include sitewide HTML codes on this page in its advanced settings.
- HTML files (Premium): complete .htm or .html files can be uploaded under Files → Upload Files and linked.
