A domain is deleted at the registry when its booking at hPage ends and it has not been moved to another provider. This article explains when that happens, what the options for .de domains are and what you can still do afterwards.
When a domain ends at hPage
- You terminated the domain under My Package → Domains → Terminate Domain. It stays active until the end of its domain year (shown as Your domain stays active until ... on the termination page) and ends then.
- You terminated the Premium package. All domains of the website are terminated with it and end together with the package.
- The first period of the package was never paid. The package then simply ends after that period, and its domains with it.
Until the end date everything keeps working, and a termination can be undone with Revoke Termination. If you want to keep the domain, transfer it to another provider before that date.
.de domains: Expire or Delete
For .de domains you choose a termination type:
- Expire – the domain goes back to the registry DENIC, where it is kept for you as the holder ("transit"). You can still move it to another provider from there. Choose this if you are not sure yet.
- Delete – the domain is deleted at the end of the term and becomes free for anyone to register.
All other extensions (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .eu, .at, .ch and so on) have no transit: they are deleted at the end and can then be registered by anyone.
After the deletion of .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz domains
Generic domains do not disappear immediately. The registry first holds them in a redemption phase and then in a pending-delete phase, together about 30 plus 5 days. During this time:
- nobody else can register the domain,
- the former owner can have it restored, but only through our support and at extra cost, because the registry charges a high restoration fee.
After that the domain is released and anyone can register it, often within seconds, because automated services watch for expiring names. If you definitely want the domain back, do not wait for the release; contact our support during the redemption phase.
