A domain is the registration of exactly one name. Once old-name.com is registered, it cannot be turned into new-name.com, not by us and not by any other provider. What you can do is register the new name and let the old one go.
Why renaming is not possible
Every domain is a separate entry at the registry (for example DENIC for .de or Verisign for .com) and is paid for by the year. Changing the name would mean deleting one registration and creating a new one, so that is exactly how the switch works.
Switch to a new name
- Open My Package → Domains (admin.hpage.com/app/booking/domains) and click Order additional domain.
- Enter the new name, choose the extension, click Check Domain and, if it is free, Select this domain. Complete the order. The new domain is billed as an additional domain at the yearly price of its extension, see Register your own domain.
- Once the new domain is active, click Set as primary domain in its row so that it becomes the main address of your website.
- Terminate the old domain: click Terminate Domain in its row, enter your current password and confirm. For a .de domain choose the termination type Delete (or Expire, if you might want to use the name elsewhere later). The old domain keeps working until the end of its domain year, so there is no gap.
If you prefer not to pay for two domains in parallel, terminate the old domain first (at least 14 days before the end of its domain year) and order the new name as your included domain once the old one has ended. Your website then runs under the free .hpage.com address in between.
